Top utility vehicle maker Mahindra and Mahindra (M&M) on Friday launched its new passenger cab, Gio Compact Cab, in the Uttar Pradesh market.
The company claims to have created a new category with Gio, positioned as an affordable passenger cab for ferrying passengers in urban and semi-urban pockets.
“UP is an important market for us and the second place in the country after Patna, where we have launched Gio,” M&M Vice-President (sales – automotive division) Vijay Nakra said. The company is basically eyeing the large three-wheeler driver-owner segment for Gio. “The cab can also be used as carriage in public schools and large corporate campuses,” he said. It is priced at Rs 1.95 lakh in Lucknow.
M&M also has a 0.5 tonne cargo truck under the same Gio brand name. “Although, the basic platform of both Gio products is the same, Gio Compact Cab has been customised for passenger safety, comfort and ergonomics,” he added.
While Gio has been launched in the diesel variant, the company is already working on an electric version.
