Mahindra and Mahindra, leading manufacturer of utility vehicles recently launched its global sport utility vehicle (SUV) XUV 500 (Five Double O) priced at Rs 10.80 lakh ( W6 ex-showroom Delhi). Available in two diesel versions, the W6 and W8 are available in both two-wheel and four-wheel drive. While the W8 two wheel drive is priced at Rs 11.95 lakh; the W8 four wheel drive is priced at Rs 12.88 lakh.
In the first phase of distribution, it will be available in cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai and Pune. The vehicle will also be launched in South Africa . In the next six months, it will be launched in Australia, South and Central America, Western Europe and SAARC countries.
Speaking on this occasion, Anand Mahindra, vice chairman and managing director Mahindra Group said, "We would like to set up a new benchmark in the SUV market. For Mahindra Group, the XUV500 hopes to create a mass market zone in the premium SUV segment. Over 200 engineers were working from the last four years to deliver this product. It is made as per the global requirements. It was a crucial assignment for Mahindra and Mahindra. Our intention is to transform and grow the SUV market which is only 15 per cent on Friday and we expect it to grow up to 40 per cent."
