Mahindra Powerol, a division of M&M, plans a pan-India presence in four to five years, venturing into the home UPS segment with initial plans to enter Bihar, West Bengal and 0rissa before 2011-end, a top company official said here today.

"We will soon start services in Bihar and before end of this fiscal, expect to also have a presence in West Bengal and Orissa," P Palaniappan, senior vice-president, Mahindra Powerol told PTI.

In the last 18 months, the company has been focusing on Tamil Nadu and the other three Southern States.

Palaniappan said there are about 3,000 distributors for UPS and the plan was to expand it to 5,000 this year.

The features of Intelli series of home UPS include relay-based charger, facility to zero-volt battery charging and alert on battery backup.

In addition to expanding its presence here, the company has also received enquiries from Bangladesh for Mahindra Intelli sets. The company is working on the modality of exports.

On the company's original product of Gensets, he said current installed capacity is 40,000 per annum with three manufacturing facilities at Chennai, Delhi and Pune, tagged with 20 OEMs across the country.

The company's products range from 2.5 KVA to 500 KVAs. Telecom companies (for charging mobile service towers) contribute 50% of total revenues. Export markets like SAARC, Gulf and African countries contribute about 10%, he said.

Palaniappan said there was no proposal to add any further OEMs in the near future. However, along with the parent company they have to expand their range and Mahindra has ambitious plans to roll out gen sets up to 2,000 KVA in the next 2-3years.

He was here to address a dealers conference on Mahindra Powerol UPS.
