Tractor and multi-utility vehicle manufacturer Mahindra & Mahindra today said it would unveil the entire range of construction equipment over the next 2-3 years. The company launched the indigenously built backhoe loader, EarthMaster, priced at Rs 20.98 lakh.
M&M said India was the single largest market for backhoe loaders in the world with a size of 25,000 units per annum and a 15 per cent growth. This was an attempt by the Rs 35,000-crore company to break into the league of companies like JCB, Kobelco and L&T Komatsu, among others.
Mostly used for construction, mining, ports and road building, the backhoe loader is a frontline machine. Europe’s JCB is the market leader in construction equipment with a market share of 75 per cent in the backhoe loader segment.
Kairas Vakharia, senior vice-president (automotive strategy and business head: construction equipment), said: “We plan to bring out the entire range of such products in the market in the next two or three years. The infrastructure sector will entail an investment of Rs 4.5 lakh crore which is seven per cent of the GDP. Demand for such equipment is bound to grow manifold.”
