Malay Mukherjee steps down from ArcelorMittal board

The world's largest steel maker, ArcelorMittal, today said its board member Malay Mukherjee has stepped down from the post "in order to pursue other interests."     

"Malay Mukherjee has stepped down from the Board of Directors in order to pursue other interests," the steel maker said in a statement.

Mukherjee, who was a senior executive in the company, joined the board in May 2008. As a member of the Group Management Board, he was responsible for Asia, Africa, the CIS, mining and technology, it added.     

"Mukherjee has been an exceptional member of ArcelorMittal, first as a highly regarded senior executive and over the past year as a member of the Board of Directors. We will miss his wisdom and advice, but wish him all the best for the future," ArcelorMittal Chairman and CEO Lakshmi N Mittal said.     

 

Mukherjee had joined the Lakshmi N Mittal Group in 1993. Prior to that he was Executive Director with state-run SAIL's Bhillai plant.
