Tata Motors Ltd on Thursday launched its latest offering, the 1405 cc Indigo Marina, in the capital priced between Rs 4.24 lakh and Rs 5.19 lakh. |
The Indigo Marina has been aggressively priced to show good volumes, despite the segment's failure to generate big numbers in the past. The pricing has been pegged to generate volumes in the range of 300 to 400 a month. Tata Motors officials argue that the 85 hp engine can deliver enough power and the Indigo Marina will be a big success in the market. |
The Indigo Marina petrol versions ""GLE, GLS and GLX"" are priced at Rs 4.24 lakh, Rs 4.49 lakh and Rs 4.84 lakh, respectively. The diesel versions "" LS and LX "" are priced at Rs 4.80 lakh and Rs 5.19 lakh, respectively. |
Maruti Udyog's Baleno Altura which is priced at Rs 6.85 lakh comes only in petrol version. The other estate in the market is GM's Opel Swing which is priced between Rs 5.45 lakh and Rs 6.09 lakh and has a 1600 cc capacity. |
Tata Motors executives said apart from taking on the same segment brands like the Siena Weekend, Swing or Altura, the latest offering from the company will also eat into other category brands like the Maruti Esteem, the Ford Ikon, the Hyundai Accent in the C segment and also MUVs like the Scorpio, the Balero and the Qualis. |
"The pricing is such that the footfall in our showrooms will increase substantially and we expect that to help us increase sales of the mother brand Tata Indigo too," a Tata executive said. The company at present sells around 3,000 units of Indigo a month. |
