Addressing mediapersons here on Tuesday, Ty Collins, the new general manager of Hyderabad Marriott, said the company was developing a 186-room lower tier class hotel in the vicinity of Hyderabad Marriott under the Courtyard brand. This is scheduled to open by the fourth quarter of next year.

"Besides, work on a 150-room Marriott Executive Apartments at Banjara Hills, a JW Marriott consisting of 200 rooms at the Hitec City and renovation of the convention centre are under way, which would be up and running by 2010. The expansion would take Marriott's room strength in Hyderabad to 833," Collins said.

While the JW Marriott is being developed by Emaar Properties, Viceroy Hotels is developing the Courtyard and Marriott Executive Apartments projects. "We will be setting up three other hotels with the Viceroy Group," he said, refusing to disclose further details.

The company's portfolio in India includes the JW Marriott Hotel, Lakeside Chalet Marriott Executive Apartments and Renaissance Mumbai Hotel and Convention Centre in Mumbai, Goa Marriott Resort Panjim and the Courtyard in Chennai. "Our idea is to have 25 more hotels under our umbrella in cities like Gurgaon, Kolkata and Delhi by 2010, of which three would be opened by this year end," he said.

Marriott International, which operates and franchises hotels under brands such as Marriott, JW Marriott, The Ritz-Carlton, Residence Inn, Courtyard, and Ramada International, currently operates 3,000 different hotels in 69 countries.
