Maruti Suzuki, the country's largest car maker, has decided to advance maintenance of its two plants where production was suspended on Monday due to stoppage in supply of car AC units from Subros. Subros' plant in Manesar was badly damaged after a Sunday fire.

Against its earlier planned bi-annual maintenance schedule of June 27 to July 2, the maintenance will now take place from June 6 to June 11.

This will enable the closure period to be utilised for arranging supply of components, both from Subros as well as from other sources, and result in higher production volumes after the closure, the company said in a statement on Thursday afternoon.

Maruti was able to resume production at the Gurgaon plant on Wednesday afternoon though it is not operating at full capacity. But operations at Manesar plant remain suspended. Maruti is estimated to have lost production of over 10,000 units till date due to the closure.

The Gurgaon plant has a capacity of 700,000 vehicles a year while Manesar is bigger at 800,000 units.

The production loss will impact the company's sales performance for June. In May, the company posted a 10.6 per cent growth in domestic sales.

Subros and Maruti are jointly working on options to obtain supply of components from other facilities and gradually bring operations back to normal.
