Even as the stand-off between the workers and the management of the country's largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL), remained unresolved, the company on Saturday said it had scaled up the production levels of the new Swift and had rolled out 17,500 units in a month.
Before introducing the new Swift in mid-August, the company was manufacturing 11,000-12,000 units of the car every month at Manesar. The production capacity for the new model was enhanced to churn out 16,000-17,000 units on a monthly basis.
MSIL produced 700 units of the Swift on Saturday from its plants in Gurgaon and Manesar. The company is now considering starting operations to roll out hatchback A-Star and the SX4 sedan.
“At this level of daily production, the company can now produce over 17,500 units of Swift in a month. Focused efforts to augment manpower strength at the Manesar plants and starting the production of the Swift model at the Gurgaon plant have helped the company reach this level of monthly production for the model”, the company said in a statement.
