Auto giant Maruti has received calls threatening to blow up its plant at Manesar if it does not pay Rs 1 crore, police said today.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Inder Singh Saini said that an unidentified person had called up a Maruti employee three times and claimed that he had planted bombs at different locations in the Manesar plant.

The caller claimed that if the company would agree to pay him Rs 1 crore by January 26, he would provide a pen drive containing all information about bombs to it, the DCP said.

The police has traced all the three calls. The first two calls were made from different numbers in Panipat on January 5 and January 12.

The same employee got a third extortion call from a number located in Jhajjar on January 16 after which the company informed the police last night.

Deepak Anand, assistant general manager, Vigilance of Maruti lodged the FIR against unknown persons.

"The plant operation at Manesar is absolutely normal and unaffected," a Maruti spokesperson said. The company had to lodge a complaint as it received three calls within a short period, demanding the extortion money.

According to initial investigations, the DCP said it might be a handiwork of a suspended or dismissed employee.

The police would soon arrest the caller, Saini added.

Maruti has two manufacturing plants in Gurgaon-- one on Old Delhi road and another at Manesar.
