Maruti to pay enhanced land costs at Manesar

Haryana State Industrial Development Corporation (HSIIDC) on Wednesday said Maruti Suzuki was willing to pay enhanced compensation to farmers for land acquisition in Manesar, as had been directed by a Supreme Court order. Sources in HSIIDC confirmed that both Maruti Suzuki and Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India had agreed to pay enhanced compensation. “Since the amount for Maruti Suzuki is substantial, the payment is taking time,” said a senior official. HSIIDC, in a notice issued on June 25, had cautioned Maruti that if the company did not deposit the amount within three months, the land allotted for the Manesar plant “shall become liable for resumption and further action would be taken”. Maruti Suzuki was in advance stage of discussions with the HSIIDC for the payment of dues pertaining to land costs when the violence occurred at its Manesar unit last week.
