Maruti Udyog is gearing up to roll-out the next generation of compressed natural gas (CNG) powered vehicles, and has agreed to collaborate with Advanced Technologies & Fuels Canada Inc (ATFCAN) and ECO Fuel Systems Inc (ECO) of Canada to evaluate advanced CNG conversion technology for use in India. Maruti will undertake an evaluation of ECO's fuel injected CNG equipment featuring the edi (ECO Digital Injection) control module. This processor-based system utilises state-of-the-art automotive electronics to optimise the original petrol engine control technology provided by Maruti for use with CNG. The evaluation exercise will have Maruti working with ECO to verify the compatibility of ECO's technology with Maruti's petrol engines, and providing technical assistance in the optimisation of edi for use in Maruti Esteem. I V Rao, chief general manager (engineering) of Maruti Udyog, said the advanced technology for CNG vehicles will arrest power drop normally witnessed in CNG vehicles and also improve fuel consumption. |
