Maruti, Toyota ride festive wave as sales grow in Oct; Mahindra disappoints

India's largest automaker Maruti, and Toyota registered a growth in sales and exports, while Mahindra and Mahindra witnessed a slump in total sales with an increase in the sales of commercial vehicles

Maruti Suzuki India (MSI), Toyota Kirloskar Motors and Tata Motors on Wednesday reported an increase in sales by 9.5 per cent, 6.45 per cent and 5 per cent respectively. Ashok Leyland reported a 3 per cent jump in total sales. On the other hand, Mahindra and Mahindra reported 1.65 per cent decline in total sales.

The sales number for the automakers in the month of October stood at 146,446 units for Maruti, against 133,793 in the same month year-ago; Toyota reported sales of 12,403 units, as compared to 11,651 units last year. Tata Motors sales rose to 48,886 units in October,
