Max Healthcare (MHC), the North Indian hospital chain, has appointed Ajay Bakshi, a former McKinsey executive, as its new chief executive officer (CEO). It also announced two top management appointments, with Abha Agrawal as Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Ranvir Bhandari as Chief Services Officer (CSO).

Last month, the then CEO and managing director, Pervez Ahmed, made a sudden exit from the company. MHC is a subsidiary of the Analjit Singh-promoted conglomerate, Max India.

“We are filling the post of CEO, recreating the post of COO and creating a new role for a CSO to harness the domain expertise of different experts in a collaborative manner,” said Rahul Khosla, managing director of Max India. He said the immediate task before the new team would be to complete the ongoing task of doubling MHC’s bed capacity from the existing 1,100 to about 2,000 during the current year. MHC runs eight hospitals in and around Delhi.

Bakshi, who joins MHC tomorrow, had been advising leading private and public sector hospitals, pharmaceuticals, health insurance and health ministerial clients globally during his just-ended tenure at McKinsey. A trained neurosurgeon, he started his career at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences.
