Maxivision Eye Hospital on Thursday launched laser treatment technology for Presbyopia at its Somajiguda branch here.

The Intracor and Supracor technology, developed by Germany-based global ophthalmology laser company Technolas Perfect Vision GmbH, is the world’s first technology to get rid of reading, biofocals and progressive glasses by correcting near vision (presbyopia).

“This treatment is mainly for people between 40 and 65 years of age who always look for permanent solutions to get rid of their glasses,” Kasu Prasada Reddy, its chief operating officer, said.

Till now, the other solutions were reading glasses, biofocals, triofocals, contact lenses and surgical treatments.

The cost of the laser treatment is between Rs 1 lakh and Rs 2 lakh. “As Hyderabad is the first Indian city to use this technology, we are expecting good response,” Reddy added.

Frieder Loesel, chief strategy officer, Technolas, said, “Around 20 per cent of the world population suffer from this disease.”

The technology cures the disease in just 20 seconds, they claim. Technolas has invested $40 million in developing this technology. Hyderabad-based Maxivision has seven branches across Andhra Pradesh.
