Plans luxury resort at Satapada.
After carving a niche for itself in the hospitality space with five-star properties in locations like Bhubaneswar, Goa, Darjeeling, Puri and Gangtok, the Mayfair Hotels & Resorts Group is all set to open its first hotel in Kolkata.
The home grown hospitality group is on an expansion spree and besides setting up a five-star hotel in Kolkata, it will add one more five-star hotel in the beach town Puri and open a luxury resort at Satapada, also in Puri district.
“We are planning to come up with a five-star deluxe hotel in Kolkata. This hotel project will cost us Rs 60-70 crore, including the land cost. The hotel is coming up on a 1.5-acre plot, about three km from the Kolkata airport. Work on this hotel project will resume in September-October this year and we expect this property to start operations by the end of 2013”, Dilip Ray, founder chairman of Mayfair Hotels & Resorts told Business Standard.
“The Kolkata property will be a high-rise hotel having 100 rooms. The rooms and bathrooms will also be more spacious compared to other hotels of the chain.
Besides going ahead with its proposed Kolkata project, the group has planned a luxury resort at Satapada, spread over 100 acres. The resort will come up on the scenic sea mouth at Satapada where the Bay of Bengal meets the brackish Chilika lake.

The resort will be a hub for conventions and also host marriages and other social activities. Meanwhile, the group has Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) clearance from the Union ministry of environment and forests (MoEF) to build another five-star hotel in Puri. This hotel will be set up on a one-acre plot opposite the group’s existing property in Puri at a cost of Rs 40 crore.
