Mahindra British Telecom (MBT), a joint venture between British Telecom (BT) and Mahindra & Mahindra, has developed into a major India-based software services provider for the telecom sector globally. MBT has over 3,000 software professionals with four offshore development centres in India and two in the UK. John Hellur, chief executive officer, MBT, spoke to Business Standard on the road ahead for the company.
What is your perception about the business environment for the information technology (IT) industry and how do you see it in the next few quarters?
Though the telecom industry still shows signs of trouble, companies are now beginning to get into the bottom of the problems. This augurs well for the future of IT companies which service the telecom sector. The telecom sector, when it was in a downturn, was actually a good place to be in since customers were seeking to derive a specific value from us in terms of cost savings.

What strategy have you adopted to garner new business and maintain your revenue?
The strategy has been to engage key customers in the telecom sector in a strong way. We are moving to solve their problems at the telecom and business level.
