McKinsey to study metal sector prospects in east

Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) eastern region has commissioned McKinsey to do a study on the prospects of minerals, metals and manufacturing in the eastern region, which was also its theme for 2004.

B Muthuraman, the newly elected chairman for CII (ER), said that the report would be submitted in the next 6-7 months. A steering committee would also be formed with representatives from respective companies.

"The study will map the strength of the eastern states, across their minerals, metals and manufacturing potential and will also benchmark with global standards" said Muthuraman at his first press conference as the chairman of the CII (ER).

The mineral-rich eastern states of Jharkhand, Orissa, Chhattisgarh and West Bengal could plan for revival of linked manufacturing activities.

In keeping with the focus for the year, CII (ER) would hold an international seminar towards the end of the year.
