Mehsana District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union Ltd, which manages Dudhsagar dairy, is planning to set up a modern cattle feed at Mehsana in North Gujarat. The decision has come after the Gujarat government allowed the union to takeover assets and liabilities of ailing Mehsana Regional Oilseed Growers' Co-operative Union.
A small number of cattle feed plants in Gujarat are run on co-operative basis. As a result, milk producers have to buy cattle feed at the market prices. “With a view to tackling the shortage of cattle feed, Mehsana Union plans to set up a modern cattle feed plant at Mehsana", said Vipul Chaudhry, chairman, Dudhsagar Dairy.
The assets of the recently acquired Oilseed Growers' Union include 45,27 acre land, oil mill and solvent plant having a capacity of 200 metric tonne (MT) each, 100 MT refinery, oil storage tanks with a storage capacity of 31,000 MT, godowns and storage facilities for oilseeds and deoiled cakes. All these facilities would be fully utilised for the proposed cattle feed plant.
