Luxury car and truck maker Mercedes-Benz expects 2010 to be a blockbuster year as it has a few launches lined up in the passenger car segment and is expecting a big demand for trucks from the mining sector, according to Mercedes-Benz India managing director and chief executive Wilfried Aulbur.
Launching Actros 4841K, a new truck for mining and special application segments, in Hyderabad on Monday, he said the company sold 580 trucks in India since 2006. This year, it sold over 200 trucks, he said, adding that the company was bullish on the demand from the mining sector in the year to come.
The new truck is priced at Rs 60 lakh plus ex-showroom, about three to five per cent more than the other products in its class. The company has a pending order book of 80 trucks, which would be delivered in the next couple of months.
“The demand is good and we have no truck to sell,” he said. Its Chennai plant would be operational in 2012 and it would open a showroom in Hyderabad next year, he added.
