Luxury car maker Mercedes-Benz has exceeded its sales target for 2010 within just 9 months by selling over 4,200 cars, a top company official said. “We have already crossed our sales target for the calendar year in 9 months by selling over 4,200 cars,” the company's India Sales & Marketing Director, Debashis Mitra, told reporters on the sidelines of the launch of its new car ‘R-Class’, here today.
The luxury SUV segment is growing at 50 per cent every year, he said, adding that the company was trying to create a new niche segment with the launch of the new R-Class, to target the untapped luxury crossover section.
“The company is positioning R-Class as a crossover between a sedan and a mini-van rather than a normal SUV, to target the untapped luxury crossover section,” he said.
According to Mitra, the company does not believe in increasing volume by reducing prices.
The second-hand car sales division of Benz, known as 'Proven Exclusivity’, has sold over 400 cars in six months in Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai and Ahmedabad.
Now the company has opened up its second-hand car showrooms which work along with present dealerships in seven more cities, he said. Most of the cars sold through this system are C and E class vehicles, he said.
