Customers will have to pay Rs 5 lakh more for Edition C

German luxury car maker Mercedes-Benz India on Tuesday launched the Edition C, a sporty-looking C-Class model, in Mumbai. It is priced at Rs 39.16 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai). Only 500 units of this will be available in the Indian market, and only in the diesel variant.

Mercedes is celebrating the 1-crore milestone of C-Class sales globally.  Customers will have to pay Rs 5 lakh more for Edition C than the regular C-Class.

This is the last of the special-edition Mercedes C-Class cars in India and an all-new C-Class is expected to debut sometime later next year or in early 2015. An AMG body kit, new designer wheels, smoked headlamps and a very subtle ‘Edition C’ badging help in distinguishing this car from the regular C-Class.

“The C-Class remains one of Mercedes-Benz’s best-sellers in the competitive entry-level luxury sedan segment. To celebrate the success of the C-Class, which sold more than 10 million units globally, we are launching the Edition C for our Indian customers,” said Eberhard Kern, managing director & chief executive officer, Mercedes-Benz India. He added, “The three quarters of 2013 have been good for Mercedes-Benz India. We have recorded 52 per cent sales growth during the year, which is far better than industry standards. We look forward to perform better next year with new launches. The C-Class contributes the highest in the total sales of Mercedes cars in India, at  35 per cent.”

In the third quarter ending September of calendar year 2013, Mercedes-Benz India has has reached the top position for the month of September by selling over 1,011 units. Mercedes-Benz led by 46 units in September, with its closest competitor, Audi, registering sales of 965 units.

In the luxury car segment, Mercedes competes with other car makers like Audi, BMW and Jaguar-Land Rover.
