Mercury Marine, a US-based marine engine maker, will be introducing its latest product, a 150-horse power (HP) outboard engine, in India in early 2012. The company, which produces a broad range of marine engines from 2.5 HP to 720 HP primarily for the defence sector, recently launched this new product in the US.

Mercury Marine is a part of the NYSE-listed Brunswick Corporation, which designs, manufactures and markets recreation products including marine engines, boats, fitness equipment and bowling and billiards equipment.

“The new 150-HP outboard engine will be useful for both defence and commercial operations. Higher durability is the main feature of the three-litre engine,” John Pfeifer, president (Europe, West Asia and Asia) of Mercury Marine, told mediapersons.

The company on Saturday inaugurated its service facility in Hyderabad, which houses a workshop, a dyno-testing facility and a warehouse, to service its customers in the south.

Mercury Marine is partnering with Esmario Marine in India, which is into diverse businesses such as marine products exports, construction and marketing of outboard engines.

Mercury garnered revenues of Rs 40 crore in India last year, with the Indian Navy and the Coast Guards being its major customers for outboard high-speed marine engines. “We expects the market to grow four-fold in the next 10 years,” Pfeifer said.
