Construction activity (on the roads) of the Rs 12,132-crore metro rail project “will be taken up in a phased and staggered manner,” said Hyderabad Metro Rail managing director NVS Reddy.

In joint coordination-cum-review meeting on the traffic management plans with Hyderabad city police commissioner AK Khan and senior traffic police officers of Hyderabad and Cyberabad and concessionaire L&T on Tuesday, Reddy said most of the construction activities are being done in Miyapur and Nagole casting yards with adoption of pre-cast construction methods for both viaduct and stations.

“Initially, construction activities would be taken up in stretches with wider roads between Miyapur and Panjagutta, Nagole to Mettuguda and LB Nagar to New Market. Simultaneously, carriage way will be widened in the narrow parts of the Metro Rail corridors through paving of the unpaved road stretches in coordination with National Highways and the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC),” he said.

AK Khan has advised the traffic police to identify the works required for improving the road surface on all the corridors as well as on parallel and alternative roads to enable smooth traffic flows during the construction period, while additional commissioner of police (traffic) CV Anand has emphasised on the need for immediately taking up signal improvements at intersections, better traffic surveillance systems and training of traffic marshals to be employed by L&T to assist the traffic police.
