Metro Tyres expects to double sales of motorcycle tyres to Rs 100 crore this year on the back of the robust growth witnessed by the country's two-wheelers industry.
"We expect sales of motorcycle tyres to reach Rs 100 crore this year from Rs 50 crore at present," Metro Tyres Managing Director Rummy Chhabra told PTI.
Currently, the share of motorcycles tyres in the company's total sales stands at 10 per cent with the rest coming from rickshaw and bicycle tyres segments.
In May, two-wheeler companies like Hero Honda, Bajaj Auto, TVS Motors posted double-digit growth in sales.
To cater to the burgeoning demand for two-wheelers tyres, the company is in the process of ramping up its production capacity at its Ludhiana plant with an investment of Rs 35 crore.
"We are investing Rs 35 crore for increasing production capacity of motorcycles tyres," he said.
The company plans to raise production of two-wheeler tyres by 60,000-70,000 units a month in the next 3 to 4 months.
"Post expansion, our production capacity of two wheelers tyres and tubes will reach 1.80 lakh to 1.90 lakh per month," Chhabra said.
