Union Minister for Mines B K Handique has ruled out any possibility of disinvestment in National Aluminum Company (Nalco), putting to rest all speculation on the possibility of a sale in government stake of up to 10 per cent in the navratna company.
"Though the Centre has a disinvestment policy in place, we are not thinking of any disinvestment in Nalco," Handique briefed reporters at the Nalco smelter plant here on Saturday.
It may be noted that the reports of a 10 per cent dilution in government equity in Nalco had recently raised a hue and cry.
He inaugurated a Rs 61-crore fume treatment centre at the smelter plant which will absorb all fluoride and tar and release clean air. Nalco officials claimed that with the commissioning of this centre, the plant will have emissions much below the pollution control norms.
