A Group of Ministers (GoM) today met here to review the progress of revival of the National Textile Corporation mills through the route of setting up joint ventures with the private firms.

The GoM, headed by Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar, however, did not consider the options of building commercial complexes on the vacant land of the NTC mills in Mumbai and other cities.

"Major commercial activity or constructing building is not our authority," Pawar said, adding it was for the Cabinet to take a decision on the issue of commercialising the NTC properties. "We reviewed the joint ventures (progress)" he said.

The government has decided to modernise 18 mills through joint venture route by inducting private partners with NTC retaining 51 per cent stake.

Besides Pawar, the GoM comprises Finance Minister P Chidambaram, Textile Minister Shankar Sinh Vaghela and Labour Minister Oscar Fernandes.
