State-run trading firm MMTC today invited bids for import of 18,500 tonne of edible oil to be delivered between September and October.

Bids would close on September 25 and the decision on the tender would be taken at 1500 hrs on the same day, the company said on its website.

According to a tender notice, 11,000 tonne of crude palm oil and 7,500 tonne of RBD palmolein (edible grade) should be sourced from Indonesia and Malaysia.

Bidder should quote for the entire quantity and the imported oil should be delivered at Kandla, Mumbai and Kakinada ports between September and October.

Last month, RBD palmolein and crude plam oil imports stood at 1.15 lakh tonne and 3.59 lakh tonne respectively.

India annually consumes about 10 million tonne of edible oils, with imports contributing half of that. It buys palm oil from Malaysia and Argentina and soyoil from Brazil and Argentina.
