Monnet Ispat appoints CIL ex-chief as CEO for mining biz

During his term, Coal India was awarded coveted Maharatna status by the govt

Leading sponge iron manufacturer Monnet Ispat and Energy Ltd today said it has appointed former Coal India chief N K Jha as Chief Executive Officer for its mining business operations.

Jha, who has expertise in mining technology and knowledge of world's coal basins, was acting Chairman and Director (Technical) of Coal India between March 2011 and January 2012.

During his term, Coal India Ltd (CIL) was awarded coveted Maharatna status by the government.

"Mining is one of the key business verticals for Monnet Group... His appointment has happened at an opportune time as Monnet Group is substantially scaling up the mining operations in India and abroad," company's Chairman and Managing Director Sandeep Jajodia said in a statement.    

An M Tech in Mining Engineering from Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad, Jha started his career in 1975 with CIL. He has also held several top posts in Coal India's subsidiary companies, before becoming the Board member of CIL.

Monnet Ispat, the national capital-based firm, is in to the manufacturing and marketing of sponge iron, steel and ferro alloys. It is constructing 1.5 million tonnes capacity integrated steel plant to produce plates, structural and rebar's at its facility at Raigarh in Chhattisgarh.

The company has carved out ambitious business plans for itself and is also expanding into power and mining businesses.
