Monster India launches virtual career fair

Candidates to give interviews over web-camera

BS Reporter Mumbai
Online career and recruitment solutions provider Monster India is set to launch a 3D virtual career fair, through which candidates would be able to interact with companies over the internet and appear for interviews via web-cameras.

The job fair would be held on April 15-19.

Using the online portal, job-seekers can get information on a company and the vacancies in that organisation and apply for jobs there.

Sanjay Modi, MD, Monster.com (India, West Asia and Southeast Asia), said, “Today’s younger generation has 24/7 lifestyles. So, searching for that perfect job can be a testing and time-consuming exercise, especially when trying to juggle existing work commitments. A virtual experience, which results in the same outcome by helping job-seekers find better opportunities at the convenience of their homes, can only benefit job-seekers in India.”

Monster has already implemented this concept in Philippines, the Gulf countries, Malaysia and Singapore.

A total of 11 companies, including Larsen & Toubro, have confirmed participation in the virtual fair, the first in India. Modi said there would be more than 100 vacancies in companies across sectors such as information technology, fast-moving consumer goods and business process outsourcing. About 18,000 job-seekers have registered for the fair.

A brick-and-mortar job fair had disadvantages related to logistics, as well as time/distance constraints for candidates, Modi said, adding these concerns could be resolved by a virtual fair.

Monster is planning to ‘calendarise’ this fair---companies can hire on this platform, as and when they require candidates.
