Monster India has said that its employment index level has risen 9% from a year ago in September according to the report, shipping/marine continues to outpace all industries, while Garments/ Textiles/ Leather, Gems & Jewellery sector also records strong annual growth. Government/PSU/Defense records double digit negative decline, while demand among occupations up most for Arts/ Creative professionals, followed by Legal. Coimbatore registers the strongest annual growth for the sixth consecutive month while Bangalore is the strongest annual gainer among major metro-markets with a 24% growth.
“The recent developments in the Monster Employment Index India reflect a relatively encouraging trend driven by growth in major sectors like IT, Retail, Healthcare, Engineering and Construction,” said Sanjay Modi, Managing Director, Monster.com (India/ Middle- East/ South East Asia).”However, growth rate continues to remain in the single-digits indicating a continued cautious sentiment.”
The Monster Employment Index India is a monthly gauge of online job posting activity based on a real-time review of millions of employer job opportunities culled from a large representative selection of career Web sites and online job listings across India.
According to the survey, 17 of the 27 industry sectors monitored by the Index registered expansion in online recruitment activity between September 2011 and September 2012.
The sector which saw the highest rise in activity was shipping/marine which increased by 54%. The government/PSU/defense sectors showed the steepest decline of 23%.
Geographically, online activity was up for 12 of the 13 locations monitored by the index. Coimbatore - up 45 percent and Kochi - up 34%, led all cities in annual growth. Ahmedabad - down 8% - was among the slowest growth markets, the survey said.
Online demand improved in eight of 13 occupational groups monitored by the Index. The highest were arts/creative - up 23% and legal - up 14%. HR and administration – down 3% saw the steepest annual decline.
