Auto ancillaries maker Motherson Sumi Systems Ltd (MSSL) is in talks with Unilever for contract manufacturing of water purifiers for the global FMCG majors' international business.

Motherson Sumi Systems Ltd is already making water purifiers for Hindustan Unilever (HUL), an Indian subsidiary of Unilever, which sells them under Puriet brand.

"We are already producing water purifiers for Hindustan Unilever in the country. Now as Unilever is looking at expanding its purifier business in other parts of globe, they have contacted us," Samvardhna Motherson Group Chairman Vivek Chand Sehgal told PTI.

Samvardhna Motherson Group is the parent firm of MSSL.

He said the talks with Unilever is mainly for supply of water purifiers in the East Asian and Latin American markets.

"We have manufacturing units for producing glass components for automobiles in Mexico and Indonesia.

These units would be used for producing water purifiers to supply to Unilever," Sehgal added.

E-mails sent to Unilever remain unanswered.

Hindustan Unilever, which is the largest FMCG firm and sells popular brands like Lux and Lifebuoy, had introduced storage water purifiers under the brand Pureit in the domestic market in 2004.

Motherson Sumi Systems Limited (MSSL), the flagship company of the Samvardhana Motherson Group, is the largest producer of rear view mirrors and other plastic components in the country.
