MTNL says "no" to number portability plan

MTNL has opposed the introduction of number portability - a facility for retaining the same mobile number even after changing service providers.

"In its written comment to Trai, MTNL has stated that mobile number portability may not be considered for introduction at present," Shakeel Ahmad, minister of state for IT and telecom, said in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha today.

BSNL has not given its views, he added.
