MTS launches mobile service in Gujarat

Sistema Shyam Teleservices Ltd (SSTL) today launched CDMA mobile service, under the Russian global telecom brand MTS, across 245 towns and 5,000 villages of Gujarat

"With an investment of over Rs 100 crore in Gujarat, SSTL targets two lakh mobile telephony customers and over 6,000 high-speed broadband users by the end of 2011," said SSTL CEO and President Vsevolod Rozanov.

He said that business in the telecom sector had great potential in India and would prove to be sustainable.

Rozanov said his company's business model of providing voice and data services was sustainable, and in the near future it plans to capture 20 per cent of the mobile broadband market.

 

SSTL is a joint venture between Sistema of Russia and Shyam Group of India with the former having majority stake of over 73 per cent.

The MTS brand has been brought to India by SSTL under license agreement with Mobile Telesystems OJSC. Sistema is the largest shareholder of MTS with over 52 per cent shares.

"Over the next three months, the company would extend its network with 100 exclusive brand outlet in 39 towns and over 31 thousand retail outlets across the state," SSTL COO Navid Rashid said.
