Mumbai’s largest multiplex chain, Cinemax India, is scouting for suitable locations in Uttar Pradesh and other North Indian states for launching its operations.
The company is not only looking for malls to enter the market, but is open to the idea of considering single screen cinema halls in up market locations with sufficient catchments.
“We are on the lookout for suitable locations having right mix of population across UP and other northern states,” Cinemax senior vice president Devang Sampat told Business Standard.
The company has opened its first multiplex in UP at Kanpur on an experimental basis and depending upon the feedback, it will chart its future strategy. The 999-seater multiplex, which has three screens, has been opened in a mall at Kidwai Nagar in the city.
Cinemax already has 86 screens across 27 properties at present and it plans to reach 100 screens by the end of this fiscal.
“The launch of our property in Kanpur is a fortification of our promise of providing a state-of-the-art entertainment complex to all movie-enthusiasts pan India,” he added.
