Mumbai's capital-based property tax stalled

The bill to amend Mumbai Municipal Corporation Act, 1888 (MMCA) which aims to introduce capital based property tax system in Mumbai failed to get clearance from the joint select committee of the both the houses yet again. The amendment is expected to bring parity in the property tax structure, of the island city and suburbs.

The committee felt that, for effective implementation of the amendment to the MMCA, there is need to also amend the seven more acts like MHADA Act, Bombay Port Trust Act (BPCA). So the committee decided to sought the legal opinion from state government
