What did you think of the Budget?
All the allocations, unless they work on the ground, are of no use. Too much money suddenly for forests and wildlife is not good, it could be wasted or squandered. There is often no allocation where it is required. The Tiger Protection Force (born in the 2008-09 Budget) or similar police mechanisms won’t work.
What were your expectations?
Even if I have expectations, the present environment minister, though smart, is very new. He needs time.
Have your expectations been met?
I will wait for next year to see if there is action initiated from the environment ministry.
Any particular concern?
We need grassroots level activation. We must hire local people under the forest department to conserve the forests.
What does the Budget mean to you on a personal level?
We are upper middle class people. We are comfortable. Our opinion need not be taken seriously on this. The Budget matters for people who need it to help them the most.
