What did you think of the Budget?
It was a positive Budget though it lacked vision.
I believe the damp sentiment is more about the lack of articulation than not getting a reduction in, say, corporate tax.
What were your expectations?
Zero, since Budgets are a means to an end and we — corporate India and the media — are guilty of making it an “end”.
Have your expectations been met?
Yes. Nine percent growth is what the government is obsessing about, and so they will do year round and for the next five years. The FM has said very clearly, don’t expect everything in one dose and you won’t be disappointed.
Any particular concerns?
Yes, we now have high expectations from this government with a proper mandate, and they need to understand that it’s not good enough to just make their own plans.
What does the Budget mean to you?
[I need] clear articulation of the government’s focus areas and whether they are putting their money where their rhetoric is.
