Mysore Minerals gets Rs 43 cr biz at Stona

Mysore Minerals, a Karnataka government enterprise, has transacted business worth Rs 42.5 crore at the Stona 2006 - the 7th international granites and stone fair - organised by the All-India Granites and Stone Association.
 
Speaking at the valedictory function of 'Stona 2006', CMD of Mysore Minerals, Jija Hari Singh said that through numerous initiatives, the company has been able to earn extra income and command huge margins.
 
"As part of corporate social responsibility, we trained women from the poorest of the poor around quarries on crafts. By doing this and also by recycling quarry waste we were able to boosted company's bottomlines," she added.
 
The company's granite business has been earning profits for the last two years.
 
"This has been possible due to modern technologies that have been adopted which minimise wastages at different stages like mining, cutting and polishing," she added.
 
Speaking on the occasion, Karnataka mines and textiles secretary Mahendra Jain said that the granite industry should take steps to minimise the environmental damage caused by quarrying.
 
By adopting the best environmental practices, the sector can make it a unique selling proposition to command good premium. At Stona '06, 50 international and 43 Indian companies participated, and featured over 150 one-to-one meetings between Indian and foreign firms. Various business proposals relating to the export of granite and marble blocks, slabs and tiles, sandstone and slate to foreign countries were finalised.
 
Companies from Japan, France, Italy, Germany, the UAE, Taiwan, Russia, Spain, US, Caribbean Islands, Venezuela, China, Denmark, UK, Switzerland besides India.
