Nagarjuna Fertilizers and Chemicals Limited (NFCL), based at Kakinada in East Godavari district, is riding high on its profits and performance.

The company has registered an all-time high production of ammonia and urea in the fiscal ended March 31, 2005. The packing unit too showed a record performance.

The company produced 13,93,000 metric tonnes of urea this year as compared to 11,94,560 metric tonnes in the last financial year 2003-04. The packing plant of the main plant achieved the highest urea packing of 13,92,538 metric tonnes during the year 2004-05.

R S Nanda, COO of NFCL, said that the company achieved this outstanding performance after a gap of five lean years.

Another milestone recorded by the plant is the highest ever achieved energy efficiency in the history of the company at 5.718G.Cal/MT.

Also, the company made substantial profits in 2004-05 as compared to its marginal loss in 2003-04.

Nanda attributed the plant's record performance to the introduction of new systems into the manpower field and the initiatives taken by the company like performance-based incentives, high-level motivation and effective communication among the employees.

According to Nanda, the targets for the new fiscal will be in the direction of providing value-added products and services.

NFCL is the second largest importer of urea in the current year, in the country, Nanda said, adding the urea dispatches (15.94 lakh MT) and sales (15.63 lakh MT) were the highest in the history of the company and the entire production of urea and ammonia were sold.

The company was also awarded the British Safety Council Award and a Commendation Certificate from Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) for excellence in safety, health and environment in 2004-05.
