The Officers' Association of National Aluminium Company's units at Angul and Damanjodi have vowed to oppose the visit of the Union mines minister, B K Handique to Angul on Friday if their proposed pay scale revision is not finalized at the company's board meeting to be held on the same day.

In a signed press release, A K Sahoo and P K Satpathy, the general secretaries of Nalco Officers' Association for Angul and Damanjodi respectively regretted that despite being a navratna company, Nalco is yet to implement the revised pay scale for officers unlike other navratna PSUs such as IOC, ONGC, NTPC, SAIL and CIL.

They pointed out that Nalco is unable to compete with private aluminium companies like Vedanta Aluminium and Hindalco due to red tapism and consequently, Nalco is unable to expand further.

“The issues of acquiring more bauxite mines, greenfield and brown field expansion have been raised before the management as well as the government several times for Nalco’s growth and profitability. The government and the company management are not able to take quick decisions on the company's expansion plans.”
