Nalco sets new sales record

 Alumina hydrate production of 15,90,000 tonnes is also a new record against the previous high of 15,75,500 tonnes achieved in 2004-05.

The company's power plant also achieved record generation of 5678 million units against 5613 million units in the previous year.

On the marketing front, Nalco recorded highest ever domestic metal sale of 258,096 tonnes compared to 205,797 tonnes in 2004-05.

The company also sold a record quantity of 103,193 tonnes from its stockyards.

In fact, during the year 2005-06, 8 no. of stockyards were in operation in different parts of country to take care of the growing domestic demand for metal.

Meanwhile, the project activities of the company's second phase expansion programmes at a cost of Rs.4091 crore are going on in full swing.

Besides, the company is exploring possibilities of joint ventures abroad and also setting up domestically an alumina refinery and smelter plant.

Nalco operated under the ministry of mines. Just a few days ago, it fixed its 2006-07 gross sales target approximately at Rs 5000 crore and gross margin at over Rs 2200 crore.

It has projected more than 100 per cent capacity utilization of mines, refinery and smelter plant.

The company signed a memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the government for the financial year 2006-07 on these lines.

The MoU was signed by the mines secretary, A K D Jadhav, and the CMD of Nalco, C R Pradhan.

In the MoU, the company has also projected higher financial commitments of over Rs 500 crore to ensure completion of the on-going expansion project in time.

The company has undertaken to ensure higher customer satisfaction, higher weightage for R&D investment and employees' training.

Emphasis has also been laid on development of captive coal mining and locating a new site for another expansion of the company.
