Nalco targets Rs 8,500 crore sales turnover in FY16

The public sector National Aluminium Company (Nalco) has set a net sales turnover target of Rs 8,488 crore for the current financial year.

This is part of an MoU (memorandum of understanding) signed between Nalco and Ministry of Mines setting targets for various financial and physical performances for the company in 2015-16.

The pact was signed between Anup K Pujari, secretary, Union ministry of mines and Ansuman Das, chairman-cum-managing director of Nalco at Delhi recently.

As regards the physical performance, NALCO has committed to produce 6.825 million tonnes of bauxite, 2.18 million tonnes of alumina, 0.38 million tonnes of aluminium and generate 6,009 million units of power from its captive power plant (CPP) by the end of this fiscal.
 

In addition, Nalco will establish a 15 mw solar power project and explore an overseas smelter plant based on cheap power.

"Nalco has given emphasis on reduction in electrical energy consumption for its refinery and smelter plant and accordingly targets have been set," read an official release.

In the last fiscal, the company achieved highest ever gross turnover of Rs 7,774 crore (provisional) against Rs 7,024 crore recorded in 2013-14, an increase of more than 10 per cent. The previous best turnover of the company stood at Rs 7,247 crore in 2012-13. However, the export earnings of the PSU have declined to Rs 3,307 crore as against Rs 3,719 crore earned in the previous year.

In 2014-15, Nalco generated 181 MU (million units) of wind energy by operating 50.4 Mw wind power plant at Gandikota, Andhra Pradesh and another 47.6 Mw plant at Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. The company also commissioned 260 KWp rooftop solar power system at it corporate office and township in Bhubaneswar. During the year, the solar energy generation from these facilities stood at 167 kilo units, the release said.
