Software body Nasscom will introduce a career guide for students to enable them to intelligently and productively sift through jobs in the IT-BPO sectors. Nasscom president Som Mittal noted that the guide -- to be developed in consultation with the industry and institutions -- is expected to be released by mid next year.

“Job opportunities that are emerging in the IT industry are very detailed now. The BPO sector too is getting segmented. We think it is important to bring forth to the students varied things about these sectors through the career guide, including problem-solving in high technology areas, and make the industry the most attractive one,” Mittal said, adding “one of the career opportunities could be to become faculty.” He was speaking to mediapersons on the sidelines of the International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT)-Hyderabad on Tuesday.

Referring to the presidential candidate Barak Obama’s suggestion on incentivising non-offshoring companies in the US, Mittal said the companies should take a call on this. Decisions should be taken by the US companies to stay competitive and outsourcing is one such way, he said.

“There is an acute shortage of tech resources in the US and there are concerns of unemployment. India is part of the global delivery chain and I don't think it will be reversed and affect Indian software exports,” Mittal said.
