The Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Jindal Steel and Power Limited (JSPL) Naveen Jindal on Wednesday assured the villagers affected by his six million tonne steel project at Nisha near here that the company will take all possible steps to address their grievances.
He was talking to agitating villagers who have been sitting on a dharna in front of the main gate of JSPL project for last three weeks.
Jindal heard various issues raised by the villagers and expressed regret over the incident that occurred on January 25, this year, wherein more than 100 villagers were injured in a scuffle with the police and security guards of the company in the project premises.
“Such incidents should never recur. SPL is a socially responsible company and shall take forward its pro people work for the development of the peripheral area,” Jindal said.
“JSPL's Angul project has been a people driven plant and the local community, which has contributed its sweat and skill for making this plant a success, will continue to benefit from this plant for all times to come,” he added.
Responding to the gesture of Jindal, the agitating villagers demanded frequent meetings between the locals and the company management. The company's CMD agreed to this demand.
Jindal was accompanied by V R Sharma, deputy managing director and chief executive officer and Rajesh Jha, the company's executive director.
