Neutraceuticals meet to focus on healthcare

The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, New Delhi, along with Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI), Mysore and M M Activ, Pune, will organise the 2nd Nutraceutical Summit in New Delhi from February 3.
 
The three-day international summit will focus on "Nutraceuticals in Healthcare "" Challenges, Opportunities and Global Outreach".
 
Some of the topics at the sessions are dietary supplements and opportunities, nutraceuticals for women, nutraceuticals and traditional knowledge industry, role of biotech industry in nutraceuticals, marketing challenges and labeling issues, functional foods and organic foods.
 
In addition to these, the summit will deal with new subjects like sportaceuticals, the emerging market of oileoceuticals, nutraceuticals, prebiotics and probiotics, and lifestyle diseases and nutraceuticals.
 
Around 250 delegates representing the nutraceutical industry are expected for the summit. Neutraceuticals sector includes food and dietary supplements, herbal extracts, agro-food tech, pharma, ayurveda, sports medicine and financial sector.
 
Fifty national and international speakers, the who's who of the industry, research institutes, academia and policy makers will address the summit.
 
Presentations from different countries will focus on certain countries and how they have leveraged their core competencies to create global markets, are included in the deliberations.
 
While the seminar will discuss key issues, the expo will be the B-to-B arm of the event.
 
It will showcase research capabilities, nutraceutical brands, products and intermediaries, marketing capabilities, technology, equipment and processes and various other services of participating nations and firms.
 
It is being organised with the objective of creating opportunity for businesses in the areas of outsourcing of research capabilities, manufacturing/production capabilities and marketing of end products at the national and international level.
 
India has over 3,000 years of heritage of definite solutions for a 'Healthy Living'. What needs to be deliberated upon are things like "" Is there a common national agenda to create wealth from the natural advantage we have?
 
Can we focus on a few commodities or be rather broad-based in our approach?
 
How can we ride the tide that will positively affect our economy and ecology? What are the bottlenecks and how can we overcome them, should there be an independent regulatory authority?
 
The summit will attempt to address the issues, look at market trends and showcase opportunities in nutraceuticals, the field of tomorrow, according to summit steering committee chairman Dr V Prakash, director of CFTRI.
