The Navaratna company Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) on Friday said that it is propo-sed to consider power proj-ects with a generation capacity to the tune of 6,480 mega watt (Mw) in two Five Year Plan periods.
The projects would attract an investment of around Rs 32,400 crore, with the given market rate at Rs 5 crore to install a megawatt capacity, which is coal-based.
Addressing shareholders in Chennai on Friday, NLC’s Chairman and Managing Director B Surender Mohan, said, “It is proposed to cons-ide power projects of 6,480 Mw capacity during the 12th and 13th Five Year Plan periods.”
He added, the corporat-ion is pursuing with the Government of India for waiver from the mandated procurement of power by beneficiaries through competitive bidding route.
Presently, the company has a generating capacity of 2,740 Mw, will be increased to 4,700 Mw.
With the implementation of 500 Mw of lignite based TPS II expansion project, 1,000 Mw of Neyveli New Thermal Power Station (which is replacement of existing thermal power station I of 600 Mw capacity), 1,000 Mw of coal based power project at Tuticorin, 50 Mw wind power and 10 Mw solar power project.
Besides the above said projects, the corporation planned for 6,480 Mw.
Power Dues
As on August 31,2012 the total power dues receivable by the Corporation is Rs 4,351.83 crore.
The major chunk of which is from Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (Tangedco) which accounted for Rs 3,496.52 crore.
“This is expected to be settled in the next two or three months as they are in the process of tying up with PFC and Rural Electrification Corporation,” said Mohan.
