NIIT Technologies on Thursday inaugurated its centre for excellence in legacy maintenance in the city. |
The software major would be employing 300 people and investing Rs 4.5 crore in the facility, said Arvind Thakur, chief executive officer (CEO) NIIT. |
Speaking on the occasion, Thakur said, "During its formative years, NIIT was one of the first IT solution providers to set up a software development facility in Kolkata. Recognising the promise of available talent and West Bengal's vision of emerging as an important IT hub in India, we have set up another facility." |
The new offshore centre would cater primarily to the global customers based in Europe and Asia Pacific regions. |
State IT minister, Manabendra Mukherjee said, "Human resource is the prime asset in the state of West Bengal. NIIT Technologies will add fillip to our endeavour for the development in this sector." |
Also present on the occasion were IT secretary, G D Gautama, chairman and managing director of Webel, Aloke Mukherjee. |
NIIT at present employs around 200 people in Kolkata. Thakur said, the total manpower strength in the organisation was 2,453. |
