For the first time in the history of state-owned oil company, a woman, Nishi Vasudeva, has joined the board of Hindustan Petroleum Corp Ltd (HPCL), a Navratna PSU, as Director (marketing).

"The Government has appointed Vasudeva as Director (Marketing) of HPCL. She took charge as Director (Marketing) today," a company press statement said here today.

Vasudeva, 54, was selected for the board job at HPCL by government headhunter Public Enterprise Selection Board in December last year. The Cabinet Committee on Appointments (ACC) gave its consent to her appointment this month.

The post of Director (Marketing) in HPCL fell vacant following the appointment of incumbent Subir Roychowdhry as the Chairman and Managing Director of the company.

Sources said this is the first time that a women has made it to the board of a PSU.

An IIM-Kolkata passout, Vasudeva is currently Executive Director (Marketing-Coordination) in HPCL.

Beginning her career in the oil industry with Engineers India Ltd, she has a wide experience spanning over 34 years in various streams like marketing, corporate, strategy and planning and information system.
