The talks between the Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) management and the workers' unions infront of the Regional Labour Commissioner, Chennai, failed to reach any finite conclusion today. The next tripartite meeting would be held on July 29, before which the labour department is expected to conduct discussions with the company management, according to union sources.
It may be noted that the talks happened today after Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa sent a letter seeking the Prime Minister to intervene in the ongoing labour issue at NLC. Bangaru Dattatreya, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for labour and employment also said that he would discuss the matter with Union Power Minister Piyush Goyal if the matter is not settled soon.
Around 12,000 workers of the company are on indefinite strike from July 20, 2015 demanding higher wages.
